ESO3 TED: IMPROV EVERYWHERE

Charlie Todd is the creator of Improv Everywhere, a group that creates absurd and joyful public scenes.

Bored by a temp job, and tired of waiting for someone to give him a stage, comedian Charlie Todd decided to make his own. So he walked into a bar and pretended to be musician Ben Folds. It went so well that it inspired him to create Improv Everywhere.

Todd has, produced, directed, performed, and documented the group’s work for over ten years. In that time they've run over 100 'missions,' some involving hundereds or thousands of 'agents,' each one creating a wonderful and irreproducible experience. Charlie Todd causes bizarre, hilarious, and unexpected public scenes: Seventy synchronized dancers in storefront windows, "ghostbusters" running through the New York Public Library, and the annual no-pants subway ride.

Would you like to participate in any of these scenes? Leave a comment after watching this video.

ESO 3 FUTURE TENSES

There are different ways to approach the future in English.

Will + infinitive

We use will to:

  • Talk about spontaneous decisions (decision made at the moment of speaking).
Example: I'm tires. I'll go to bed.

  • Offer yourself to do something.
Example:  Mary: It's too hot in here, don't you think?                                                      Jane: I'll open the window.
  • Make predictions about the future based on your opinion.
Example:  I think it will snow a lot this winter.

Be going to + infinitive

  • We use 'be going to' to:

  •  Talk about a future intention when a decision has already been made (something you have previously thought about).
  • Example: Next year I'm going to study at university.
REMEMBER:  We usually omit the verb 'to go' in sentences with going to.
Example: Next year I'm going to university.(not: I'm going to go to university)

  • Make predictions about the future when there is evidence that something is going to happen.

Example: You are not studying at all. You are going to fail the test tomorrow.

Present simple

We use the Present simple to talk about schedules.

Example: My flight to Barcelona leaves at 7.30 tomorrow morning.

Present continuous

We use the Present continuous to talk about future arrangements (there has been some kind of preparation or organisation).

Example: I have already bought a ticket. I'm leaving next Friday.

ESO 2 / 3 WHITNEY HOUSTON

I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside.

('Greatest love of all', by Whitney Houston.)

On February 11, 2012, Whitney Houston was found dead in her  room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills (California). The cause of death remains unclear.

Whitney Houston has always been one of my favourite singers. It's a terrible loss to our world. She had the best voice of any singer ever and a lot of people think she sang like the angels. I think she was pure magic. It has been a sad ending to someone with great talent.

RIP Whitney.

Have you ever heard any of her songs? Try with this one and do the exercise below.

ESO 3 GROUNDHOG DAY

What is Groundhog Day? Have you heard about it before?

Well I think we should start from the very beginning. This is a groundhog.

Groundhog Day is a traditional North American festival which takes place on 2 February. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. People gather at Gobbler's Knob, a wooded knoll just outside the town where a groundhog named Punxsatawney Phil can be found.

According to folklore, the groundhog's behavior will forecast the weather. If the groundhog pops its head out of its burrow, sees its shadow and then goes back in again, six more weeks of winter will follow. If the groundhog does not see its shadow, then it will not be scared to come out of its burrow, which means spring will be just around the corner.

So the next question is: what happened this year? Let's have a look at this video.

New Year's Resolutions

Hi kids we're back again. It has been a really niece week. Most of you have greeted teachers a classmates, wishing a Happy New Year to ones and the others. Well it's my turn.

Make this New Year be one of the best ever.

Let's have a look at the definition from Cabridge Dictionaries Online.

(A New Year's Resolution is) a promise that you make to yourself to start doing something good or stop doing something bad on the first day of the year.

"Have you made any New Year's resolutions?" "Yes, I'm going to eat more healthily and give up smoking."
Have you ever made any New Year's resolutions? I'm absolutely sure you all have.
Is studying more among them?
Watch the video you'll find in the following link and then do the exercise below.
